More photos of the conserved and restored Wake Green Road prefabs! I was in Solihull and met David at the prefabs on Monday morning. David had arranged to look inside one of them which is ready to let.

I was thrilled to see the careful workmanship and recreation of the original cupboards and taps. The prefab is ready to move into complete with carpets and floor coverings.

I spoke to some of the contractors from Equans, who have undertaken the restoration, and asked how they dealt with the slabs underneath the prefabs. The slabs had suffered deterioration causing the prefabs to go out of alignment. The contractors told me they had dug out the original slabs and replaced them leaving just the line around the edge.

Congratulations to Equans and particularly to Birmingham City Council for ringfencing the budget.

Eight years after the Prefab Museum became involved in the project with the Birmingham Conservation Trust, 20th Century Society West Midlands, Birmingham City Counci and Historic England, the prefabs are now nearing completion!
