I was six when we moved in to our prefab at the White City Estate. It was like heaven after the council house we had come from in East Acton where we had an outside toilet, a bath with a table top in the kitchen, a small yard out the back and a shared communal garden in the front. The prefab was so modern with electric cooker and a wash boiler and fridge, loads of cupboards and fitted wardrobes. A full length airing cupboard, an all night burner fire with doors to close in the lounge which heated the water and provided us with a warm air heating system. An immersion heater for use in the summer to heat the water, a heated towel rail in the bathroom, low level flush toilet. We loved living there and we had a decent size front and back garden with a shed as well.
