Islington Crescent prefabs, Wood End

These are the prefabs that were at Tamworth Road and Islington Crescent, Wood End, Warwickshire. These were located in a semi rural location and set around a green. The Tamworth Road prefabs had far reaching country views, and some of those set around Islington Crescent had very large rear gardens. My maternal grandparents Charles and Eileen Cook lived at 93 Tamworth Road from 1953 and stayed for the remainder of their lives until 1992. My paternal grandparents Stan and Gwen Lawrence lived at 99 Tamworth Road from the early 1970’s until 1995. They eventually became available only for retired and elderly residents and residency was highly sought after. My grandparents all cherished their prefabs and took great pride in them. My granddad Cook was quite adept at DIY and created a formal rose garden at the rear and crazing paved the front garden and lined it with box hedging in the 1960’s. He also built stone effect fireplaces for several neighbours during the 1970’s. All the prefabs were vacated and demolished in 1995.
