Five of the six remaining Tarran prefabs in Highmore Street, Hereford, are currently vacant. They are awaiting demolition as part of a Council housing development programme. The sixth Tarran is privately owned and has recently been sold, with an asking price of £125,000.
The prefabs occupy two separate sites, numbering 32, 34 and 36, and numbers 58, 60 and 62. Numbers 36 and 62 have street frontages; the other four face the back of another prefab.
On the day I visited, someone from a pest control company was checking the interiors of the vacant prefabs. The demolition of prefabs in Beattie Avenue has already increased the rat population in the area of the remaining prefabs.
