  • I lived in the Bury Old Road estate at this time and I
was at Parkside. Miss Walton was the head and a
marvelous teacher we had – Mr. Edwards.
With the benefit of hindsight, this was a wonderful time. I would love to hear from anyone at Parkside at that time.
    Fond memories……Ray T.

  • I lived in the pre fabs in Heaton park from about 1950/51 till they demolished them in about 1958/59
There were two locations in the park. One was Sheepfoot lane and the other was on the Prestwich side of the park. Most kids from both estates went to Parkside primary school which was at the top end of Sheepfoot lane.
We lived in Barham Close and I had two sisters both younger than me. When the council wanted the land back, they demolished the pre fabs and dispersed the tenants to areas such as Blackley, Alkrington etc
Considering that most people had come to the estate from two up two down or back to back properties, they were a luxury. Inside toilets, bathrooms and fitted kitchens and a garden. It was a lovely place to be raised and the park was our playground.
