My mother and father lived at 250a Richmond Road, Hackney, London E.9 from 1944/45. I believe they must have been the first to have lived or occupied a prefab in Hackney but I cannot find any evidence. My mother said that a group of newspaper reporters arrived one day unexpectedly and took photos. I have photos of my sister and I during the cold winter of 1947 in front of our prefab. We lived on the edge of London fields. I went to a dance school in Queensland Road during the V.E. day celebrations in 1945 so we were living in Richmond Road at the time.

I read lots of articles about the first people to live in prefabs but they are usually in front of prefabs which had bathrooms: ours did not. I can find no mention of my family. The prefabs were situated on the corner of Richmond and Eleanor Road and were on the edge of London Fields. Would appreciate any information you can give me. thank you June Shute
