  • I actually lived in one of these prefabs on Christchurch Avenue. (Originally there were 4 prefabs).
My parents were the first married couple in the country after the war to be offered a prefab as a home. (Article in magazine about them.) We lived there very happily for many years, later moving to Kensal Rise.

  • I remember this as we lived in the nearby prefab estate at Rosedene at the far end of Chrustchurch Avenue, just up the road from this. Ours were the sane type, 2 bedrooms with a living room and enclosed coal fire, bathroom and separate toilet at the end of the hall which had an airing cupboard. A small kitchen and dining area was included. Also, a small fridge plus a plug in electric boiler for washing clothes. And a small coal shed at the back made from old Anderson shelters. A nice garden and a lovely location off a footpath surrounded by trees. Ultimately there were 7 of us in the prefab so dad and his brother joined a self build group and eventually we moved to Chesham, Bucks. Mum and dad slept in the living room in a sofa bed with 2 girls in one bedroom and 3 lads in the other.
