Manford Way up to Chigwell Rec was classed as Chigwell, New north Road over towards Fairlop was Hainault, it all depended which side you lived on as to whether you was Chigwell or Hainault

I was born in a prefab at 14 Tine Road (off Manford Way) in 1947 and lived there until 1953. Our postal address was Chigwell. It is also shown as Chigwell on my identity card.

I lived at 10 Manford Green for 10 years in the 50’s and the postal address was always Chigwell. My old school friend still in Arrowsmith Road, and his neighbours, also have the Chigwell postal address although the estate itself is the Hainault Estate.
