George Warren and his sister Olive Welfare grew up in a Uni-Seco prefab on the Isle of Dogs, and recall their memories, their Grandad moving in unexpectedly and weddings in the prefab. June Kapitan, her husband and their son Jaroslav moved into a prefab (Tarran) in Ipswich in 1955 when Jaroslav was 4 months old. They lived there till 1964 and moved out after Jaroslav’s sister was born. In 2010, June came back to live on the estate – where there are still 142 prefabs standing up – in another prefab, very near the one she used to live in. Andree and Pat came to see us when we brought the Moving Prefab to Avoncroft Museum, and shared their memories of growing up in an American prefab in Birmingham.
